Lord Surya is generally depicted with his two attendants Danda and Pingala.
Danda sometimes also called Dandi is a personification of a weapon Danda. Danda means a rod or a staff. Such personification of a weapon is called as Ayudha Purusha (Weapon Man). He is also referred as Skanda.
As the name suggests, Danda or Dandi always appear carrying a rod/staff in his hand beside Lord Surya. Sometimes, Danda is depicted with Khadga (sword) and Khetka (shield) showcasing him as a protector or guard of the god.
Danda represents Surya’s authority and power. He represents Surya’s role in maintaining the order.
