Introduction of Nandi:

Nandi is the bull vahana (mount) of the Lord Shiva. He is also the guardian deity of Kailash, the abode of Shiva. Almost all Shiva temples display stone images of a seated Nandi, generally facing the main shrine.

Sculpture Information:

Siddheshwara temple is part of the famous group of temples of God Shiva which are placed around the confluence (Sangam) of Pravara and Godavari rivers at Toka near Newasa (Pravara Sangam).

The main temple is the abode of Lord Shiva with Shiva Linga. At the entrance of the Shiva temple, a very attractive and mighty idol of Nandi grabs attention. The Nandi idol is made of black stone and well ornamented.

Ornamented Nandi are common characteristics in south-Indian Shiva temples, especially in Hoyasala-style temples. Nandi at Siddheshwara temple reminds you with its beauty and alive expressions.

Nandi’s neck is covered with various ornaments. Jingle bells are used in multiple places. Nandi with the bell tied to his neck is a common feature.

Nandi’s eyes are fixed on Lord Shiva’s Linga. His lassos are tied with snakes which can be seen at the back of his head. His hump is differently figured.
