Iravati

Iravati is the daughter of Kadru or Bhadramada and Kashyapa, as depicted in the Aranya Kanda of Ramayana.

One legend states that Indra’s divine elephant, Airavata, is the offspring of Iravati.

Other Associations

  • Iravati is also associated as one of the eleven wives of Rudra called a Rudrāṇī.
  • Iravati is one of the wives of Yama

She is also associated with a sacred Iravati river, which was one of the names of the river Ravi of modern-day Punjab during the Vedic period.
